My daughter and I are on the hunt for our favourite donut shop. I asked my followers for their recommendations, and Tina’s Cafe & Bakery was on the list.
Need more details? I asked “where should we try next?” and Albertans answered by the thousand! Check out the complete list and find your next favourite donut stop!
Located in the quaint village of Glenwood, be sure to pop into the ice cream shop as well to check out the Cheese Factory Museum and, if the weather is nice, head across the street to the splash park.
Here’s our honest review – including what we ordered, what stood out, and whether it’s actually worth the drive.
Note: None of our donut shop visits are sponsored. We go in like any other patron and enjoy our little treat before recording our thoughts outside of the shop.

Visit Details

Location: 52 Main Ave, Glenwood
- Day of the week: Monday
- Time of visit: 3pm
- Donut price range: $1.50
Atmosphere: Finding Tina’s Cafe & Bakery feels like discovering one of those little roadside gems that make Alberta road trips even more memorable. We were warmly welcomed the moment we stepped inside, with several staff members greeting us.
The cozy shop is filled with cottage-vibe shelving, and while the shelves weren’t overflowing at 3 pm – a good sign of a shop that knows its demand and doesn’t bake more than needed – the kitchen behind the counter was still bustling.
We arrived just as another customer walked out with the last full dozen donuts. Thankfully, the staff happily served us from the remaining singles – perfect, since we just needed four!
There’s only a couple tables in the shop, and the place has an unmistakable small-town charm that reminded me of the cafe in Heartland. Parking was easy (even with our trailer), the bakery was spotless, and despite being late in the afternoon, there was a steady stream of customers coming through the door.
Donut Basics

- What we ordered: 4 glazed donuts
- Type of donuts: Yeast
Notes: There was only one type of donut for sale – a basic dipped yeast donut. They know what they’re good at, and hit the nail on the head with this!
Donut Review

Dough
Type: Yeast
Texture: Fluffy with the perfect chewiness to the crust.
Flavour: The dough was so flavourful – beyond the typical flour and yeast. One of the tastiest doughs I’ve ever had!
Freshness: Despite being some of the last donuts of the day, they still felt fresh.
Glaze and Filling
Balance: Perfect ratio of glaze to dough.
Texture: Just right. Not too crumbly, not sticky.
Flavour: Excellent balance between pastry and glaze makes for a “just sweet enough to eat a dozen” donut. The glaze had a hint of something beyond plain powdered sugar and vanilla, as well, but I couldn’t place it.
Distribution: Donuts were completely covered with a light glaze.
Execution
Appearance: Basic
Quality Control: Excellent consistency between donuts.
Value: Incredible. I couldn’t believe the bill for four donuts was only $6.50!
Overall Rating
A Tier – Outstanding. Worth a drive.
I could easily see this becoming a stop when we’re in southern Alberta. Only 30 minutes east of the Twin Butte General Store I won’t be surprised if we start adding it onto our regular visits there!
Hubby commented that he could fuel a race on these. With many of our trips south centred around Sinister Sports events, I wouldn’t put it past him!
My only complaint is the lack of options. Based on Facebook posts, it looks like there’s sometimes a sugared donut and donut holes available as well. But, like I said earlier, this is a case of knowing what sells, and playing to your audience. I’m a big believer in that, and…
Would we go back? Yes! Probably any chance we get. Those donuts were GOOD!
